What vaccinations does my dog/puppy need?
In this area, we recommend the distemper/parvo combination vaccination as well as Bordetella vaccination for all dogs & puppies over 6 weeks of age. The Leptospirosis vaccination is recommended for some breeds. State & city laws require all dogs over 6 months of age to be kept current on Rabies vaccination.

The distemper/rhino/calici combination vaccination is recommended for all cats/kittens over 6 weeks of age. We also recommend testing all cats/kittens for Feline Leukemia and then vaccinating if the test shows they are not already infected. Any cat over 6 months of age should be kept current on his/her Rabies vaccination.

At what age should I have my pet spayed/neutered?
Unless you are specifically planning to breed your pet, we recommend neutering or spaying him/her at 5 months of age. Altering your pet before they reach puberty will prevent many types of infections & cancers as they age and will help to prevent some unwanted behaviors related to hormones & mating habits. As long as your pet is healthy, there is no maximum age limit for a spay or neuter surgery. We do require that your pet be current on his/her Rabies vaccination and distemper combination vaccination by a licensed veterinarian at the time of hospitalization for surgery.
Our clinic has the option to use a laser rather than a scalpel blade to make the necessary incisions for these surgeries. By using the laser there is less bleeding during the procedure as well as less swelling and pain during the recovery period. We offer blood work prior to any anesthesia event & have the ability to run this right in the clinic the morning of the procedure.

Do you board dogs & cats?
Yes, we do. Dogs must be current on their vaccinations for Rabies, distemper/parvo, & Bordetella by a licensed veterinarian. We have a variety of kennel sizes available for small dogs up to large runs for big dogs. Every kennel & run is cleaned twice daily and all dogs are leash walked inside a fenced yard twice daily. Any canine guest that stays with us for 7 nights or more will receive a courtesy bath the day prior to going home.
Our feline guests each a have large "kitty condo" with 2 rooms so that the litter box area is separate from the dining & sleeping area. Current Rabies and feline distemper/rhino/calici virus vaccinations are required to board.
We serve Hills brand pet food to our boarding pets and provide blankets or pet beds, but your pet is welcome to bring his or her own food, bedding, or toys.

How often does my pet need to have his/her teeth cleaned?
Statistics tell us that 40 percent of all pets in the US have some degree of dental disease by 2 years of age. Bringing your pet in each year for his/her annual examination will allow the doctor to assess your pet's dental health & detect any changes that need attention. Certain breeds are more likely to have dental concerns earlier in life than others. But most pets need routine dental cleanings annually after 2 to 3 years of age.

When do I need to use flea/tick products on my pet?
In this area of the country ticks are most prominent in the spring. We usually see our first ticks during the first 2 weeks of March each year. They will continue to be a concern throughout the summer and fall until we have our first freeze.
Fleas are a concern through the entire year. They can be brought into the house on the pet and continue their entire life cycle inside the home. Once a home is infested with fleas, it can be very difficult to get rid of them. Therefore, using a flea control product on all pets in the household every 30 days throughout the year is recommended.

Many of the major product manufacturers have very cost-effective coupons or satisfaction guarantees for products purchased through our clinic. A doctor or staff member can make product recommendations based on your specific needs.

Can I buy Heartworm prevention for my dog?
We have several options (oral medications or topical product) for heartworm prevention for your pet. We follow the AAHA, American Heartworm Assoc., and product manufacturers' recommendations to perform a heartworm test on each dog over 6 months of age before starting on any prevention product. An annual heartworm test is also recommended and required even if your dog takes the prevention product every month. A heartworm test can be run right in our clinic & takes only about 10 minutes to get the results.
Do you sell prescription pet foods?
Yes. We keep a wide variety of Hills canine & feline prescription diets (canned & dry food) in stock at our clinic for our pet patients that have been diagnosed with specific medical conditions that have special dietary needs.
Can I buy dewormer for my pet?
If your pet is having a parasite (worm) problem, we have a variety of prescription deworming medications available. For most patients, a fecal examination (stool sample) and physical examination should be done by one of our veterinarians to determine the type of parasites and the best treatment. Your pet's doctor can then accurately advise you on the life cycle of the parasite, potential risk to humans, and methods to prevent re-infestation.
Do you do any grooming?
